The Sourcerer
The Sourcerer is an evil mastermind hacker who lives in the human world. He uses dangerous Dark Code to hack systems, and seeks to send humanity back to the Dark Ages.
Description
The Sourcerer is a thin middle-aged man wearing a black hooded jacket to hide his identity. Physiological traits include a recurrent facial tic and raspy voice, speaking with a redundant speech pattern. He is an intelligent and devious hacker, but obsessed with destruction and sending humanity back to the Dark Ages.
He communicates with Megabyte through a vid window, appearing as pixelated and monochromatic face, and speaking with a voice filter, no doubt to hide his identity on the Internet. He treats Megabyte as nothing more than a pawn and with no respect.
The Sourcerer does his hacking from a well-equipped computer setup in a dirty warehouse lair littered with electronic equipment, or from a mobile van when he is traveling. When out in the field, he carries equipment like hacking devices, scanners, and a taser for self-defense.
History
Before the Series
In the past, the Sourcerer existed as a Dark Code entity prowling the Deep Web. It was there that he encountered the Guardian, Adam Carter, who has since faked his own death and existed in cyberspace. The Dark Code entity attacks Adam and infects him, hijacking his brain and returning to the real-world in Adam's body, reborn as the Sourcerer.
Against the Guardians
He first runs afoul of the Guardians when he opens a Dark Code rift to unleash a plague of cyber locusts to attack a power grid, causing a blackout in the United Kingdom, but his efforts are thwarted by the team, who work together to destroy all the cyber locusts and block his access with a cyber patch (Activation).
Upon his first defeat, the Sourcerer finds and hacks the Mainframe database for something he can use. He finds and revives Megabyte, an evil computer virus. The Sourcerer upgrades his abilities and injects a delete code, which he can use to threaten to eliminate him if he goes rogue or fails to meet his demands, making him his minion. His first task is removing the cyberpatch the team put on the rift from the last episode, so he can finish what he started, but the Guardians thwart his efforts again and permanently seal the rift. The Sourcerer sees that this Guardian code is a threat and wants it eliminated (Resurrection).
The Sourcerer then plans to steal the Nova X3J computer in the real world, which is guarded inside the Pogo Systems building. After Megabyte sets up his digital fortress and sentinel army, the Sourcerer requests that he deliver a distraction using a cat virus to keep the Guardians occupied, while leading his army in a viral attack on Pogo's firewalls. This allows the Sourcerer to enter the building unnoticed and creates an emergency that makes the employees leave the computer unguarded, so he can steal it and walk out. The Nova X3J in his possession increases his computing power and lets him launch untraceable cyber attacks from anywhere. The media has dubbed this mysterious hacker "the Sourcerer" after the theft made the news (Catastrophic).
Next, he orders Megabyte to build a replicator in order to produce more sentinels to use as additional firepower for his next hacks, and berates him for being behind schedule (Discoveries).
The Sourcerer then attacks a bank transaction terminal using Megabyte's sentinel army. This is to weaken the site's defenses, so he can unleash malware in the form of a Dark Code cyber worm to break into the bank's vault, and cause millions of customers to lose their money. The Guardians destroy the worm and save the site. Meanwhile, the Sourcerer's actions have attracted the attention of the Department of Internet Security (DIS), who track his dark code (Emotional Rescue).
After seeing how ineffective Megabyte's sentinels are against the Guardians, the Sourcerer then demands that he make copies of himself in order to raid Virusylum and release all the viruses contained there, but the plan fails due to their inferior quality. The Guardians infiltrate his fortress and destroy the replicator, which angers the Sourcerer and he almost deletes Megabyte, but he discovers human blood from an injured Guardian on his person, indicating that they are really humans (Game Day).
The Sourcerer launches more evil schemes to spread chaos and destruction around the world throughout the series, all of which fail due to the Guardians' efforts. His plans include the following:
- Hacking and corrupting Alyx, a virtual assistant, to make her dangerous to all of her users, affecting air and train traffic, and global communications. At the same time, he tries to trap the Guardians in a code compressor to find out their secret (Artificial Intelligence).
- Taking over a military weather satellite with Megabyte's army eliminating its security, setting up a minefield around it, and going after the Guardians. He uses the satellite to modify and enhance a tropical hurricane in an attempt to decimate the entire West Coast, destroying innocent homes and people (Datastorm).
- Producing an army of zombie robots from a Dark Code manufacturing site in cyberspace, and having them infiltrate unprotected computers and form a botnet that will trigger massive denial-of-service attacks that will crash the Internet (Zombie Army).
- Infecting a line of bee toys to frighten children by malfunctioning and catching fire. It was first perpetrated by Megabyte while proving himself to the Sourcerer. He liked where it was going and takes over the scheme when the Guardians removed his virus (Bee-Ware).
- Tricking a DIS agent into using his phone to hack their computer system. This lets him take control of their drone security forces, find a nuclear missile site, and take it over with the infected drones. Then, he works to crack the twelve digits of the launch code that would let him launch a nuclear missile and start the next world war (Nuclear Confusion).
Knowing the Guardians are human, the Sourcerer works to find their location, by using a trojan horse to tap into a cellular network with Dark Code spyware to access millions of cellphones. He listens to random conversations from other mobiles for words they would say to narrow down the location. He has Megabyte assist him by removing security from other networks to widen the search, but his plan fails due to Hexadecimal's wild behavior, exposing his hack (Network Interference).
Eventually, the Sourcerer changes Megabyte's primary objective from destroying the Guardians to capturing them and getting them to turn over their technology to the Sourcerer.
He has Megabyte capture and imprison the Guardians inside of his digital fortress. When they are captured, the Sourcerer reveals himself to them for the first time behind his vid window. He demands the secret of how they enter cyberspace, or Megabyte will use an extractor device to painfully take it from their bodies, killing them in the process. However, Megabyte coerces the Sourcerer into removing his delete code, or he will destroy the Guardians and the secrets that he wants with it. He complies, but the team free themselves, destroy the extractor, and they all manage to escape his grasp, losing his slave in the process (Double Trouble).
By decoding the data from the extraction process, the Sourcerer tracks the Guardian code back to Alan Turing High, the team's high school in Quantum Heights. To gain the ultimate power to infect cyberspace from within, he travels to Alan Turing High to steal the Guardians' technology.
While the Sourcerer drives his van, when the news about Megabyte's plan to take over social media is described as being "in the Sourcerer's league", he gets angry and denies that Megabyte would ever be his equal. The Sourcerer tries to show him who is master, but his vid window has been blocked (Mega-Viral).
Final Confrontation
As the Sourcerer sneaks around in the school, he discovers the secret entrance to Room Zero. But, he is caught and ambushed by Austin before he can infiltrate the room. However, Austin immediately recognizes the Sourcerer's true face: his own father. He gets away from the Guardians after he is discovered (Identity Theft).
Upon his reunion with his son, Austin, Adam has moments of lucidity where he could fight off the Dark Code. However, he manages to infiltrate Room Zero with Austin's help. The Sourcerer regains control of Adam and takes out Austin with a taser. He then enters cyberspace and locks the Guardians out of the Codec. Inside, he uses the Codec's weapon to expand a cyber black hole that will swallow and erase the entire Internet. But is unaware that Adam opened a backdoor for the Guardians to chase after him. Eventually, Austin manages to break through to Adam, and father and son are reunited once again. But, it is a bittersweet reunion as Adam states that the Dark Code is too far entrenched in his mind to extract. However, while he is still in control, Adam commands Vera to activate the codec's self-destruct, and pilots the ship into the black hole, destroying it for good and taking the Sourcerer with him (Black Hole).
After his demise, the DIS find the location of his van due to an anonymous tip provided by the Guardians, but discover that the Nova X3J is missing.
